Hardware specific errors

HP Gen 8 & 9 Servers with iLO 4 considerations

VM Squared on HP Gen8 and Gen9 servers may experience lockup, keyboard unavailability via iLO, or remote media corruption issues if IOMMU (Intel VT-d) is enabled in the BIOS. This is due to an architectural limitation in this hardware.

To confirm this issue is present with the system, errors similar to those seen below will be found in the node’s kernel log:

[Fri Apr 12 14:05:05 2024] DMAR: DRHD: handling fault status reg 102
[Fri Apr 12 14:05:05 2024] DMAR: [INTR-REMAP] Request device [01:00.0] fault index 0x1a [fault reason 0x26] Blocked an interrupt request due to source-id verification failure

It is resolved by disabling IOMMU (Intel VT-d). The general steps can be followed below:

  1. During system boot, press F9 to enter the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU).
  2. Select System Configuration.
  3. Select Processor Settings.
  4. Select Intel-Vtd.
  5. Select Disable.
  6. Go to main menu
  7. Select Advanced Options
  8. Select SRIOV
  9. Select Disable.
  10. Save and exit RBSU.
